Fire safety is an amalgamation of many aspects of fire prevention, detection restriction and reaction, each with their own requirements and standards.

The Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) is the place to start. A good FRA will provide the building owner or manager with comprehensive advice for action to be taken in order to reduce the risk of fire and the results of fire to an absolute minimum. The FRA has been a legal requirement for every building other than a single dwelling since 2006.

A properly designed and installed fire alarm system will go a long way to reduce injury and damage from a fire, however in isolation this is not enough.

The most important stage of any fire alarm system is the design. In many cases this is carried out with ignorance of the required standards. The result is that many owners and landlords believe that their installed systems are correct, however, this can prove costly.
